The University of Pretoria’s roots can be traced back to the 1930s, when football began at the Pretoria University in South Africa.
In 2003, the university purchased the status of the Pretoria City FC National First Division franchise, forming AmaTuks FC and entering professional football.
Recent History
During the 2011/12 season, AmaTuks competed in the National First Division (NFD) and finished at the top of the league, which earned them promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), premiership league, for the first time in their history.
In the following seasons, AmaTuks competed in the PSL from 2012 to 2016, developing several notable players from their development setups. Proving the football club as one of South Africa’s leading university-based football teams which perfectly combines academic excellence with professional football.
After being relegated in the 2015/16 season, the club refocused on youth development through the Tuks football Academy with stretches to different age groups.
Currently, AmaTuks compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (NFD) in the 2025/26 season, with a focus on returning to the PSL under the guidance of Coach Kwanele Kopo.
